The default personas are Photo, Develop, Liquefy, Tone Mapping, and Export. Above the main image view, there are buttons for five personas – what most programs call modes. As with Photoshop, the interface shows a toolbar row on the left side of the program window and an info panel on the right for things like layers, histogram, swatches, adjustment, transformation – a total of 25 modules that cannot be locked in Affinity Photo Beta.
The interface is industry-standard very dark gray, but the many colorful icons are less subdued than most of today’s photo editing apps. Serif Affinity Photo Windows does not include an automated tour of its interface as offered by several competing photo apps, including Corel PaintShop Pro, Lightroom, and Skylum Luminar. A New Document link opens a dialog where you set image properties such as size and type. When you first launch the program, you will see a welcome window with examples, tutorials, and links to Twitter and Facebook content. In comparison, Lightroom Classic and Photoshop (both PCMag Editors’ Choices) each take up 2 GB.
